Tempo
Jonny
Tempo, started playing drums at the age of 10.
I remember back in the 70's as a kid, when I first saw the Glitter
band, with their two drummers. Those are the guys that made me
want to play the drums, and it wasn't long before I could be found
in my bedroom wearing my silver Steve Austin space suite, a pair
of my mums platform boots, pounding the hell out of cardboard
boxes with a set of mecano sticks. That was it, I was a drummer
from that moment onwards. And here we are now,27 years later,
and I'm still doing it. The cardboard boxes have been replaced
with a top of the range Pearl drum kit, real drum sticks, and
this time I'm getting paid for it. Playing in the Glamsters is
like going back to my roots. This is the music that made me want
to play in the first place.
After
playing in various school bands I joined Last Straw, and toured
the country, then going on to play and record with members of
60's legends the Hollies.By the mid 80's we had formed the rock
band Paris with Rufus and Donny , more touring and the release
of a single, you are the one. Late 80's to late 90's I played
and recorded 7 albums with pop rock band Beats working. By the
mid 90's my old mates from "Paris" suggested we get
back together and form another rock band. But we were all 10 years
older, and the music scene had moved on from those big hair, pretty
boy rock bands of the 80's, so what on earth could we do now?
"I know", I said, "70's Glam Rock." "Not
a bad idea" said Rufus "but there's no way I'm dressing
up in platform boots and women's clothes" . And now look
at us.
The truth
of the matter is that you just can't play this sort of music without
dressing up in outrageous costumes. The band would not have the
same impact if we came out on stage in jeans and T-shirts. So
here we are. I'm probably having the best time playing the drums
I've ever had. We have never had a bad show. We just can't seem
to loose playing this music. It's fun, outrageous, sometimes funny,
but above all, it's the strength of the of the songs that come
through every time. So, the next time the Glamsters are in your
town, why not come down and have a look. I guarantee you won't
have a bad night. You will come away with a smile on your face
and you won't be able to get those songs out of your head.
See you on the road.
Jonny.
